Synopsis
Blanca & Roja, published by Anna-Marie McLemore in 2018, follows the del Cisne sisters, whose family carries an old curse: in every generation, one daughter is eventually taken by the woods and transformed into a swan, while the other is left behind. Blanca, outwardly obedient and graceful, and Roja, sharper-tongued and often labeled difficult, have grown up under the shadow of this pattern, uncertain which of them the curse intends to claim. Determined not to let the old rules decide their fates for them, the sisters resolve to defy the curse together rather than let it divide them as it has divided generations of del Cisne women before. Their efforts draw them into the nearby woods and into contact with two local boys whose own lives become entangled with the sisters' struggle against a tradition that has never before been successfully resisted.
