Synopsis

The second book in The Wounded Kingdom trilogy follows Girton Club-Foot as he returns to Maniyadoc after fleeing a bounty placed on his head, only to find the kingdom transformed by civil war, with three rival claimants now vying for the crown. Girton reconnects with his former friend Rufra, one of the contenders, and works within Rufra's war encampment to root out a traitor plotting an assassination, all while struggling to keep his own increasingly difficult to suppress magical abilities a secret. Surrounded by rival assassins competing for the life of a king and threats from both outside enemies and those closer to home, Girton finds his loyalties and his skills tested as never before.
