Synopsis
In the third book of the Shadows of the Apt series, Stenwold Maker works urgently to rally allies to defend the Lowlands against a renewed and imminent invasion by the Wasp Empire, whose armies are poised to spread their black and gold banners across every remaining free city before the year is out. At the same time, the seer Achaeos has located the long-lost Shadow Box, a magical artifact of formidable power, though it risks slipping out of reach again unless it can be secured quickly. Stenwold and his allies must move fast to build a coalition capable of resisting the Empire's advance, while beneath the surface looms a further danger: should the Shadow Box fall into the hands of the Empire's power-hungry ruler, the consequences could prove catastrophic well beyond the immediate war.
