Synopsis
Bound is the eighth novel in the Alex Verus series and finds Alex, a diviner who has spent years building an independent life in London, maneuvered by circumstances beyond his control into working once again for Richard Drakh, the Dark mage who trained and abused him as an apprentice. Recaptured and placed under Drakh's authority alongside Drakh's associate Morden, Alex has to carry out tasks for the men he escaped years earlier while searching for any opening that might let him break free. His ally Anne is drawn into the same uneasy arrangement, and the two of them must weigh how far they are willing to go, and what they are willing to compromise, in order to survive being bound to their old enemies without losing themselves in the process.
