- Titus-continuity novella, first published in the anthology Sometime, Never (Eyre & Spottiswoode, 1956, alongside Golding and Wyndham). Wholly Peake's own text, but a detached side-story; the protagonist is unnamed in Peake's manuscript ('the Boy'); the name Titus was added in publication. Set within the timespan of Gormenghast (Titus as a young teenager). A corrupt text circulated in 1969/1976 reprints; the accurate text was restored in Boy in Darkness and Other Stories (Peter Owen, 2007).
