Synopsis

In the fourth Circle of Magic novel, Briar Moss, a former street thief with a gift for plant magic, travels with his teacher Rosethorn to the city of Summersea when a mysterious, unidentified disease marked by blue spots begins spreading through the population. As the illness kills with alarming speed and doctors fail to identify its cause, Briar, along with his foster sister Tris and the dedicate Rosethorn, is called on to help investigate. Their search for the source leads them to suspect the outbreak may have magical rather than purely natural origins, putting Briar's still-developing skills to a serious test under dangerous, high-stakes conditions. The book follows Briar's growth as a healer and plant mage as he works alongside adults he trusts to contain a crisis that threatens the whole city.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
