Synopsis
Set roughly a thousand years before the events of The Dragonbone Chair, this prequel novella is narrated by Pamon Kes, a servant of the enslaved Changeling race bound to the immortal Sitha lord Hakatri. Hakatri and his younger brother Ineluki, both members of the ruling Sithi family, set out after Ineluki swears a rash and dangerous oath to destroy the monstrous dragon Hidohebhi. Steady and cautious by nature, Hakatri is drawn into his brother's impulsive vow, while Pamon Kes accompanies them and watches the consequences of pride and haste begin to unfold. The journey draws the household into peril that reaches beyond the brothers themselves, hinting at troubles that will echo through Sithi and human history for centuries afterward.
