Synopsis
The third book of the Last King of Osten Ard trilogy continues directly from Empire of Grass, with the kingdom of Erkynland thrown into crisis. Queen Miriamele is feared dead after a rebellion in the south, King Simon is left reeling by the losses his family has suffered, and their heir Prince Morgan has been taken captive, all while the trusted royal official Pasevalles works to unravel the court from within. An army of Norns under the ageless and vengeful Queen Utuk'ku sweeps into Erkynland, striking at the capital while also pushing into the forbidden valley of Tanakiru in pursuit of an ancient secret. With even the Sithi unable to halt Utuk'ku's advance, the scattered survivors of the royal family must find a way to respond before the threat overwhelms them.
