Synopsis
Changes is the third book of the Collegium Chronicles, following Mags as he investigates crimes and conspiracies threatening the Collegium. His espionage training under Nikolas, the King's Own Herald, deepens as the two go undercover together, with Mags disguised as a deaf jeweler while Nikolas poses as a trader called the Weasel. Their assignment is to gather intelligence on a group of adversaries who can somehow conceal themselves from normal detection, and the pair gradually realize that an unknown enemy may be planning a significant strike against Valdemar. Alongside this espionage plot, the book follows Mags's fellow trainees through romantic developments and family troubles back at the Collegium, giving a fuller picture of daily student life even as the undercover investigation grows more urgent and its stakes become clearer.
