Synopsis
In the third Southern Vampire Mysteries novel, set in December, Sookie's vampire boyfriend Bill Compton grows secretive, working late at his computer before departing abruptly on a mission for the Queen of Louisiana, a task involving a project he refuses to fully explain. When Bill fails to return and then goes missing in Jackson, Mississippi, Eric Northman enlists Sookie's help in tracking him down, pairing her with Alcide Herveaux, a werewolf with ties to the region who can move through circles closed to her. Their search leads them into the domain of Russell Edgington, the vampire king of Mississippi, and into Jackson's supernatural nightlife centered on a bar called Club Dead, where Sookie must use her telepathy to navigate a world of rival loyalties.
