Synopsis
A prequel to the main Witcher saga, this ninth novel in the series tells the story of Geralt of Rivia's youth, opening shortly after he completes his witcher training and begins working independently. Geralt becomes entangled with Preston Holt, an elderly and ailing witcher who survived a massacre at the witchers' stronghold of Kaer Morhen. The story traces the origins of an anonymous anti-witcher pamphlet known as Monstrum, whose hateful rhetoric helped incite the attack that killed most of the witchers present at the stronghold. As Geralt works alongside Holt, he confronts questions of justice and revenge that will shape the man he is to become, set against a continent already growing hostile toward witchers.
