Synopsis
Set chronologically between The Last Wish and Blood of Elves, this standalone novel finds Geralt working in the coastal kingdom of Kerack, where a violent confrontation with a dangerous beast leads to his arrest and the confiscation of his two witcher swords, tools essential to his trade. With his old friend the bard Dandelion at his side, Geralt sets out to track down and reclaim the stolen weapons while navigating Kerack's court and criminal underworld. Along the way he becomes entangled with the sharp-tempered sorceress Lytta Neyd, known as Coral, and crosses paths with figures of real political power. His search draws him into two overlapping conspiracies, one involving a cabal of sorcerers and another centered on King Belohun and his feuding sons, complicated further by the witchers' uneasy standing with the mages who oppose him.
