Synopsis
The tenth novel continues directly from the events of its predecessor, following Perrin Aybara as he presses his desperate effort to rescue his kidnapped wife, Faile, from the Shaido Aiel, even weighing an uneasy alliance with the Seanchan to accomplish it. Mat Cauthon, having fled Ebou Dar with the captured Daughter of the Nine Moons, Tuon, continues trying to evade Seanchan pursuit while an unlikely relationship develops between them, and he begins to suspect she has channeling ability of her own. Elayne Trakand works to secure her claim to the throne of Andor while concealing a personal secret, her pregnancy with twins, from those around her. Rand al'Thor sends emissaries to open diplomatic contact with the Seanchan, who respond with a demand to meet the Dragon Reborn directly, while Egwene presses her siege of Tar Valon and risks capture by her opponents.
