Synopsis
Set about twenty years before the events of The Eye of the World, this prequel novel begins when an Aes Sedai experiences a vision revealing that the Dragon has been reborn into the world. The discovery sets off an urgent search among the Aes Sedai for the newborn child, with Accepted Moiraine Damodred and Siuan Sanche compiling lists of possible candidates from among recent births. When the Amyrlin Seat who authorized the search is found dead, Moiraine and Siuan come to suspect that the Black Ajah, a secret faction of Aes Sedai loyal to the Shadow, may be working to prevent the Dragon's identity from being discovered. As Moiraine pursues her own investigation, she crosses paths with Lan, a warrior grappling with troubles tied to his homeland, and the two form an uneasy partnership while a dangerous rival search unfolds around them.
