Synopsis

In the peaceful land of the Rhiddaer, a ratcatcher's son named Jahdo overhears a secret meeting between a city councilman and a mysterious, dangerous woman, and the discovery sets him on the road toward Deverry in the company of a blind bard. There he is swept into a much larger conflict: two sorcerers, one human and one elven, find themselves struggling against a goddess gone mad, whose growing cult threatens the fragile order of the kingdom. Armies both astral and physical begin massing for and against this goddess, Alshandra, as the mercenary Rhodry Maelwaedd and a dragon are drawn into the unfolding crisis at the besieged city that lies at its center.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
