Synopsis

Jane Yellowrock is a skinwalker and vampire hunter who works for Leo Pellissier, Master of the vampires of New Orleans. A rival sets out to take Leo's position and first attacks Jane. Leo treats the attack as a challenge to his rule. Then a plague begins to kill vampires and leaves their masters exposed. Jane has to find out who the rival is and where the sickness comes from. She works with her small circle of friends and allies while the city's vampire households prepare for open conflict. If the cause cannot be found, the fight for control of the city could mean war.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
