Synopsis
The vampires of Asheville, North Carolina, want to form their own clan. Because they owe loyalty to the Master Vampire of New Orleans, they must first negotiate terms with him. To reach a fair arrangement he sends an envoy, and he sends Jane Yellowrock along as the envoy's bodyguard. When campers near Asheville are attacked by something with fangs, Jane stops being only a bodyguard and becomes an investigator. She has to find the killer, because failing to do so would anger the Master who sent her. The trip takes her into the mountains where she grew up and where old family ties wait.
