Synopsis
Dragons have returned to the Rain Wilds after a long absence, but their offspring hatch weak, deformed, and often dangerously unstable rather than as the glorious creatures of legend. A mismatched group of young keepers, many of them outcasts marked by the Rain Wilds' own strange afflictions, is assembled to guide these fragile dragons upriver toward the mythical lost Elderling city of Kelsingra, a journey beset by environmental hazards, political maneuvering back home, and simple human greed. As the expedition sets out with little idea of what truly awaits them, both dragons and keepers must learn to survive dependence on one another in a landscape that offers no easy passage.
