Synopsis
Dzur picks up after the events of Issola, with Vlad Taltos hoping for some respite from danger, only to discover that his estranged wife Cawti has lost control of the criminal holdings that once secured South Adrilankha's underworld for the Jhereg. A sorcery-wielding faction called the Left Hand of the Jhereg has moved to seize control of the resulting power vacuum, threatening to spark open conflict between rival Houses. The legendary assassin Mario Greymist alerts Vlad to the crisis, while Norathar, a Dragon noble and friend of Cawti's, shares his concern over the deepening power struggle that now threatens everyone Vlad cares about in South Adrilankha.

Notes
- From the series record (Vlad Taltos): 17 novels (1983-2024) of a planned 19-book structure (17 House-named books + Taltos, named for the protagonist, + a final closing volume, The Last Contract, not yet written; Chreotha, the 18th, is also not yet written). Internal chronology is contested among fan sources and explicitly not recorded here, see the notes on Jhereg.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
