Synopsis
Issola opens with Lady Teldra, Morrolan's skilled and diplomatic servant, tracking Vlad Taltos down in the wilderness to tell him that Morrolan and Aliera have vanished. Sethra Lavode, believing that Vlad's possession of the artifact Spellbreaker makes him well suited to the task, asks him to help find and rescue their missing friends, and Vlad agrees despite the danger. The trail leads to the Jenoine, an ancient and powerful force from beyond the ordinary world, who appear to have captured Morrolan and Aliera and taken them to what seems to be another plane of existence entirely, forcing Vlad and Teldra to venture into unfamiliar territory to bring their friends home.

Notes
- From the series record (Vlad Taltos): 17 novels (1983-2024) of a planned 19-book structure (17 House-named books + Taltos, named for the protagonist, + a final closing volume, The Last Contract, not yet written; Chreotha, the 18th, is also not yet written). Internal chronology is contested among fan sources and explicitly not recorded here, see the notes on Jhereg.
Neighbouring works
Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
- Publication order, within the series Vlad Taltos: position 9 of 17: previous Dragon (1998) · next Dzur (2006)
