Synopsis
Emperor Mage is the third book in the Immortals quartet. Daine joins a Tortallan diplomatic delegation traveling to Carthak, the empire ruled by the Emperor Mage, a sorcerer-ruler with a fraught history with her teacher Numair Salmalin. Her assigned task is to use her wild magic to heal the emperor's prized aviary of exotic and magical birds, a mission meant to strengthen fragile relations between the two nations. Inside the opulent and strange imperial court, Daine finds herself navigating unfamiliar customs, old political grudges connected to Numair's past, and undercurrents of religious tension involving Carthak's gods. As she works to diagnose and cure the birds, Daine discovers new dimensions to her own powers, even as the diplomatic mission grows more fraught than a simple healing errand.
