Synopsis
A power of unknown origin has appeared in Evenmere, and it kills anyone who tries to use it. Carter Anderson, now the house's Master, must find the source before it destroys the house and drags the wider universe into endless war. His own son's life is also at risk. Carter's enemies, the Society of Anarchists, who want to build a perfect world of their own, are still at work, and the house itself is prepared to give up what it holds most dear in order to bind the forces that threaten it. The book completes the story of Carter and the house begun in The High House.
