Synopsis
Exile, the fifth book by internal chronology of The Legend of Drizzt but the third published, follows Drizzt Do'Urden after he has renounced his dark elf house and fled alone into the perilous wilderness of the Underdark, accompanied only by his magical panther companion, Guenhwyvar. Over roughly a decade of solitary survival, Drizzt is tormented by grief over the fate of his father, Zaknafein, and by guilt over his failure to save his House from the violence and corruption that drove him away from Menzoberranzan. Forced to contend with monstrous predators, hostile drow patrols, and the crushing isolation of life far from any light or kindness, Drizzt clings to the principles that set him apart from his people even as the Underdark tests his resolve, slowly pushing him closer to the distant promise of the surface world he has never seen.
