Synopsis

In Exile's Gate, the fourth and final book of the Morgaine Stories, Morgaine and her companion Nhi Vanye i Chya, whom she took into her service by chance rather than choice, face what proves to be her most demanding confrontation yet over control of the interdimensional Gates. Their path crosses that of Gault, a human-alien hybrid seeking to seize a Gate and use it to extend his own dominion over the world it commands, as well as an enigmatic figure known as the Gatemaster, whose command of the Gates' power may rival or exceed Morgaine's own formidable abilities. As Morgaine and Vanye move to prevent Gault's ambitions from succeeding, their long partnership, forged and tested across three earlier worlds, is pushed to its limits by the scale of the threat and the uncertain loyalties surrounding them.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Morgaine Cycle): A sword-and-sorcery/planetary-romance hybrid about Morgaine, a warrior charged with destroying the ancient, dangerous gate-network left behind by a vanished civilisation, and the swordsman who becomes her reluctant companion. No further volume has appeared since 1988, and the author has not stated the story is finished, so this is treated as an unconfirmed-status series rather than declared complete.
