Synopsis
The Théâtre Illuminata is a theatre where the characters of every play ever written live behind the curtain, held there by The Book, a magical collection of all the scripts. Beatrice Shakespeare Smith, called Bertie, is not a character in any play, but the players are the only family she has known, and she has grown up among them in the wings and costume rooms. When the Theatre Manager tells her she must leave, Bertie bets that she can stage a successful production of Hamlet, set in Egypt, and earn her place. Her helpers are four mischievous fairies from A Midsummer Night's Dream, a pirate named Nate, and Ariel, the air spirit from The Tempest, who longs for his freedom. When The Book goes missing and trouble spreads through the theatre, Bertie must learn where she truly belongs.
