Synopsis

Faith of the Fallen opens with Richard captured through magical coercion by Nicci, a Sister of the Dark loyal to the Imperial Order, who forces him across the sea to the Order's capital city of Altur'Rang in the Old World. Spanning more than eighteen months, the novel follows Richard as he lives and works among the oppressed citizens of the Order's own heartland, quietly inspiring rebellion against its harsh, freedom-crushing rule through his example rather than his sword. Meanwhile, back in the Midlands, Kahlan commands D'Haran forces defending against Jagang's armies in Richard's absence. Nicci, tasked with breaking Richard's spirit, instead finds her own convictions about the Order tested as she witnesses the consequences of its ideology up close.

Where it sits

  • Universe: Sword of Truth
  • Series: Sword of Truth (main sequence) core; position 6 of 15 in the series' recorded order
  • Author: Terry Goodkind

Notes

  • From the series record (Sword of Truth (main sequence)): 15-novel continuous main sequence; publication order equals internal chronology throughout. Correction: The Pillars of Creation's first US edition is 2001 (Nov 20), not 2002 as some secondary listings state; 2002 is a paperback/reprint date bleeding into 'first publication' fields.

Neighbouring works

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings, but they resolve to the exact same sequence for this book, so one combined line is shown instead of two identical ones.
