Synopsis
In the sixth and final book of the Codex Alera series, Gaius Octavian returns from the ruined Canim continent to find the Aleran Realm itself devastated by the insectile Vord, a swarming, adaptive race controlled by a sentient and increasingly cunning Queen. With the old First Lord gone and much of the Realm's military strength shattered, Octavian must rally the surviving legions, the High Lords, and even old rivals to make a coordinated stand before the Vord overrun the last strongholds. Marching his forces back toward the site of his childhood home at Calderon Valley, he must use every ounce of furycraft mastery and battlefield cunning he has gained to hold the line.
