Synopsis
The galleys of the Republic of Ciudalia have just crushed the fleets of the Sublime Sovereign of Ressine, and Benvenuto Gesufal, an efficient and unscrupulous swordsman in the service of the Podestat Leonide Ducatore, believes the worst of the storm has passed. He could not be more wrong. Winning a war is all very well, but when the spoils have to be shared among the victors new quarrels awaken, the criminal arrangements Benvenuto made among Ressine's enemies and the Podestat's opponents begin to surface, and the knives come out, which happen to be very much his line.
