Synopsis

Shamus Shame Flynn, a sharp-tongued Death magic user, works a desk job monitoring the city's magic users. Although the most dangerous magic was sealed away three years earlier, people are still hunting for it. Shame has found a way to break magic and restore its old power, but he needs the help of Terric Conley, a Life magic user who enforces magical law and refuses to join him. When a corrupt government faction and a vengeful assassin target the people they care about, Shame breaks magic anyway, pays the price and goes after the killers into hell and back.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
