Synopsis
Aquasilva is a stormy waterworld whose religious authority, the Domain, is devoted to the element Fire and holds supreme power. Cathan, the adopted son of a count, is travelling to a trading port to tell his father about an iron deposit found on their island. Along the way he uncovers a plot to bring about a new age of fundamentalism. He is sent to an academy for Shadow mages, one of several centres of resistance to the Domain, where he meets companions and dissidents whom the Domain calls heretics. As he learns more, Cathan begins to question the beliefs that govern his world and his own place in the struggle.
