Synopsis

House of Roots and Ruin, the second book in Erin A. Craig's Sisters of the Salt series, follows seventeen-year-old Verity Thaumas, who has quietly seen ghosts for most of her life without fully understanding her own gift, as she flees her family's grief-marked estate to take on a commission painting a portrait for a duchess in the lush, fertile region of Bloem. There she finds herself drawn to the duchess's charming son even as she settles into the unfamiliar comforts of Bloem's court, but her new life is unsettled by disturbing nightmares that grow harder to ignore, hinting at secrets buried beneath the region's beauty and prosperity. Verity must decide how far to trust her hosts as the boundary between her visions and reality begins to blur.

Notes

  • From the series record (Sisters of the Salt): A gothic-horror-tinged fantasy series loosely inspired by 'The Twelve Dancing Princesses', following the twelve Thaumas sisters.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
