Synopsis
The year is 1666. Above ground, King and Parliament have fought one another through the execution of Charles I, Cromwell's Protectorate and the Restoration of Charles II; below, the Onyx Court has weathered a war of its own against the faerie powers of Scotland, with Lune now on its throne and a mortal Prince of the Stone at her side. The novel moves between the two Londons across the turbulent decades of the mid-century, following the faerie court's attempts to keep its mortal city safe from its enemies and from the fae's own factions, until the war beneath the streets breaks loose above them. In September 1666 a fire begins in a bakery in Pudding Lane, and behind it is a dragon, and the Great Fire of London becomes the battle in which the Onyx Court must fight for the city's survival as well as its own.
