Synopsis
Inheritance is the fourth and final novel of the original Inheritance Cycle, continuing directly from Brisingr as the rebel alliance called the Varden presses its war against the tyrannical King Galbatorix, ruler of the empire of Alagaesia. Eragon, a young Dragon Rider, has risen to lead alongside his dragon Saphira, while the elf warrior Arya fights at his side and Nasuada commands the Varden's forces. Eragon must balance the burdens of leadership with his own growing swordsmanship and magical training, all while his kinsman Murtagh, bound to serve Galbatorix alongside his dragon Thorn, remains a dangerous and conflicted adversary. As the Varden's armies advance city by city toward the imperial capital, Eragon becomes consumed with locating the legendary Vault of Souls and the Rock of Kuthian, hidden repositories rumored to hold a power that could finally tip the long war against the empire.
