Synopsis
Murtagh is the first book in a follow-up duology to the original Inheritance Cycle, set roughly a year after the events of Inheritance and focusing on the character Murtagh rather than Eragon. Having helped bring down the tyrant Galbatorix, Murtagh and his dragon Thorn now find themselves distrusted outcasts, feared and shunned across Alagaesia for the destruction their former master once wrought through them. Wandering without a home or clear purpose, the pair sense something wicked stirring in the shadows of the land and set out to investigate. Their search draws them toward a mysterious witch whose reputation and true nature prove far more complicated than rumor suggests, forcing Murtagh to rely on hard-won magical skill and his uneasy bond with Thorn as he explores new corners of the Alagaesia setting far from the war he just survived.
