Synopsis
Iorich centers on the arrest of Vlad's friend Aliera, who is charged with practicing Elder Sorcery, a crime whose timing puzzles Vlad because the Empire has long been aware of her involvement with that ancient form of magic. Suspicious of the arrest's motives and troubled that Aliera herself seems unwilling to mount a defense, Vlad sets out to uncover what is really behind the charges, even hiring a legal advocate to represent her against her own wishes. His usual allies Morrolan and Sethra notably decline to intervene on Aliera's behalf, leaving Vlad to navigate the Empire's legal and political machinery largely on his own.

Notes
- From the series record (Vlad Taltos): 17 novels (1983-2024) of a planned 19-book structure (17 House-named books + Taltos, named for the protagonist, + a final closing volume, The Last Contract, not yet written; Chreotha, the 18th, is also not yet written). Internal chronology is contested among fan sources and explicitly not recorded here, see the notes on Jhereg.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
