- A short story original to the collection Looking for Jake and Other Stories (Macmillan/Del Rey, 2005) -- not previously published elsewhere. Follows the last days of Jack Half-a-Prayer, the Robin-Hood-like Remade rebel referenced in Iron Council. A genuine Bas-Lag-set short work, registered Expanded Canon rather than folded into the 3-novel Core sequence. Surfaced during Bas-Lag / New Crobuzon's own admission and left unresearched at the time -- now researched. Mieville's other Bas-Lag-adjacent short fiction (if any exists beyond this story) was not found.
