Synopsis
Kai Lung's Golden Hours continues the pattern established in The Wallet of Kai Lung, presenting a further collection of tales told by the wandering storyteller Kai Lung, again framed by his travels and the situations in which he finds himself obliged to entertain an audience with a story. The individual tales continue the earlier volume's ornate, mock-classical prose style and its gentle parody of Chinese storytelling conventions, mixing wit, irony, and moral fable in narratives that stand largely independent of one another. Kai Lung's own situation, navigating the practical demands of an itinerant storyteller's life, again provides the loose connective frame around the collection, extending the character and voice introduced in the first volume of the series.
