Synopsis
The third novel in Ian C. Esslemont's Path to Ascendancy trilogy continues the story of Dancer and Kellanved as they work to found what will eventually become the Malazan Empire. Set amid the incessant, grinding wars between the many bickering, fiercely independent city-states of Quon Tali, an upstart mage from the distant region of Dal Hon steadily gains control of the surrounding southern seas, laying groundwork that will prove essential to the pair's larger and still-unfolding ambitions for the mainland, even as established rivals within Quon Tali begin to take uneasy notice of how far these newcomers have already come.
