Synopsis

King's Shield picks up with Inda after nearly a decade away from home, years spent building a fearsome reputation at sea that has, by this point, made him as much a pirate hunter and raider as a merchant escort. Returning at last to his homeland, he finds it transformed as well: his childhood friend Evred now sits on the throne, having inherited a kingdom facing the threat of an imminent seaborne invasion from an old and powerful enemy across the water. Evred, recognizing both Inda's unmatched naval experience and their old bond of loyalty, appoints him as his Royal Shield Arm, the king's closest military defender, charged with organizing the kingdom's defense against the coming assault.
