Synopsis

Kings of the North picks up with peace nominally restored to Tsaia and Lyonya after the coronations of Mikeli of Tsaia and the half-elven Kieri Phelan, following directly on from Oath of Fealty. That peace proves fragile: surviving magelords still threaten Mikeli's hold on his throne, while Kieri must navigate a strained relationship with his elven grandmother as he learns to rule a kingdom he barely knows. Both kings also face a shared external danger from the ambitious ex-pirate Alured, who covets their thrones, and the northern realm of Pargun begins massing for a possible invasion. As old alliances and friendships are tested by these mounting pressures, the story sets up a discovery that will unsettle the fragile order both kings have only just begun to build.

Notes

  • From the series record (Paladin's Legacy): 5-novel direct-sequel sequence (2010-2014), continuing immediately after The Deed of Paksenarrion. Not to be confused with The Legacy of Gird, a differently-named earlier prequel duology.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
