Synopsis

Kushiel's Avatar is the third and final novel in the Phedre trilogy within Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel's Legacy series, set roughly a decade after the events of Kushiel's Chosen, during a period of relative peace for Terre d'Ange. Phedre no Delaunay, the anguissette courtesan and spy who has spent the intervening years in comparative quiet, is drawn back into action by two interconnected goals: freeing her old friend Hyacinthe from a curse that has bound him for years, and locating the long-missing son of a former adversary. Pursuing these linked quests takes Phedre and her companion Joscelin far beyond the borders of Terre d'Ange, through dangerous and unfamiliar lands, as she works to resolve obligations left over from her earlier adventures.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Phèdre Trilogy): The flagship trilogy, following Phèdre nó Delaunay, a courtesan and spy marked as Kushiel's Chosen, in Terre d'Ange, a medieval Western European-inspired fantasy world descended from Blessed Elua and fallen angels -- historical fantasy/alternate history.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.

  • Publication order, within the series The Phèdre Trilogy: position 3 of 3: previous Kushiel's Chosen (2002)
  • Internal chronology, within Kushiel's Legacy: position 3 of 9: previous Kushiel's Chosen (2002) · next Kushiel's Scion (2006)
