Synopsis
Kushiel's Scion opens the Imriel Trilogy in Terre d'Ange, some years after the events of the original Kushiel trilogy. Imriel nó Montrève de la Courcel, adopted son of Phèdre nó Delaunay and the warrior-priest Joscelin Verreuil, is entering manhood as a Prince of the Blood, third in line to the throne. He was stolen, tortured, and enslaved as a child before his adoption, and he now lives in a court fascinated by beauty and desire, forever shadowed by the treason of his birth mother, Melisande Shahrizai, who once nearly destroyed the realm. As he comes of age, Imriel is haunted by fear that he has inherited his mother's dangerous allure and cunning, a fear shared by courtiers who distrust him. The novel follows his struggle to define his own character and loyalties while navigating politics, rivalries, and his own unwanted desires.
