Synopsis

Raider and Wasp have spent five years training to become Blades, magically bound swordsmen. They turn down an offer to serve the king of Chivial, and that refusal makes them outlaws. They flee to Baelmark, the land of the Baels, a people who have long raided Chivial, and there they find themselves in the middle of a court crisis resembling Hamlet. Flashbacks show how a Chivian duchess came to marry the king of the Baels.

Notes

  • From the series record (Tales of the King's Blades): Novels about individual Blades of Chivial, beginning with Durendal in The Gilded Chain and ending with The Ethical Swordsman.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
