Synopsis
Magic Bites introduces Kate Daniels, a lethal swordswoman trained since childhood to one day face the ancient sorcerer Roland, living in a near-future, parallel Atlanta where waves of resurgent magic clash unpredictably with modern technology. Kate survives on the margins of this unstable city, taking mercenary work and avoiding attention, until her former guardian is murdered under troubling circumstances that shatter her carefully maintained obscurity. Determined to find those responsible, Kate partners with Curran, the powerful Beast Lord of Atlanta's shapeshifters, and Nick, an agent of the Order of Merciful Aid, whose resources she needs to pursue the investigation properly. As Kate digs into her guardian's death, impressing the Order enough that they consider hiring her outright, she is drawn deeper into the city's volatile magical factions and the kind of attention she has spent her whole life trying to avoid.
