Synopsis

Malarkoi, published by Alex Pheby in 2022, continues the Cities of the Weft trilogy in the aftermath of the climactic events of Mordew. The surviving cast, Nathan's mother Clarissa, his friends Dashini, Gam, and Prissy, and the magical dog Sirius, scatter from a commandeered ship in different directions, each pursuing their own separate goals and paths through the wider world of the weft. The narrative shifts to a multi-perspective structure, rotating among these characters as they make their way toward or through Malarkoi, a city with its own pluralistic, fragmented structure quite unlike the tightly centralized rule of Mordew. As the group's paths diverge and occasionally cross again, the novel deliberately unsettles the expectations set up by the first book's more familiar chosen-one framing.
