Synopsis

Malice is the first novel in John Gwynne's The Faithful and the Fallen series, set in the Banished Lands, a realm scarred by an ancient war between men and giants. Young Corban dreams of nothing more than becoming a warrior like the heroes of legend, training and struggling to prove himself worthy despite his father's modest standing. As Corban pursues this ambition, the wider world stirs uneasily: long-dormant giant clans grow restless, colossal wyrms are sighted in the wilderness, and scholars versed in old prophecy begin to recognize unmistakable omens of an approaching cataclysm. Political tensions also sharpen among the Banished Lands' rival kingdoms, as ambitious rulers maneuver for advantage. Unbeknownst to most, these earthly conflicts are entangled with a far older struggle between angelic and demonic forces, both of which are beginning to move their pieces toward a coming confrontation.
