Synopsis
Nothing has been right at Number Seventeen since Mary Poppins left, and the children are sent out to fly a kite in the park. The kite catches on something at the end of its string and, reeled in, brings down Mary Poppins, who takes up her post exactly as before and explains nothing. The new adventures are odder and darker than the first: the Banks' fifth child, Annabel, arrives and talks with the Starling until she forgets; the children are summoned into the sky for Mary Poppins's birthday, where the constellations dance; Jane, shut in her room in a temper, is pulled into a Royal Doulton bowl by a boy named Valentine and nearly kept there for ever; and a terrifying governess from Mr. Banks's childhood, Miss Andrew, is routed by the nanny. Mary Poppins leaves on a merry-go-round horse, with a return ticket.

The first three follow her arrivals and departures; the later three are set within those visits.
