Synopsis
Midnight Tides is the fifth novel in Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen series. It follows the wealthy trading kingdom of Lether as it prepares, largely unaware of the true danger involved, to deal with the neighboring Tiste Edur tribes, who have begun uniting under new and formidable leadership. The novel centers on the Sengar brothers' fraught quest to recover a mysterious, ancient sword bound up with Edur destiny, while the clever, endlessly scheming merchant Tehol Beddict navigates Lether's own political and economic currents from the shadows, manipulating rivals and allies alike as the impending clash between the two peoples draws inexorably closer.
