Synopsis
In the second Peter Grant novel, Constable Peter Grant, still new to his role as apprentice wizard within the Metropolitan Police, is called to the Groucho Club in Soho to look into the brutal murder of a journalist. While working that case, he grows increasingly troubled by a string of deaths among jazz musicians that appear natural on the surface but each carry a distinctive magical signature, convincing him the deaths are anything but accidental. As Grant follows the threads connecting Soho's jazz scene to older, stranger forces at work in the city, he continues to balance ordinary police procedure with his supernatural education under Nightingale, drawing him deeper into London's hidden magical underworld while the true source behind the musicians' deaths remains elusive.
