Synopsis

Mortalis serves as a bridge between the DemonWars Saga's first and second trilogies, set in Corona in the years after the first trilogy's war against the demon dactyl. A plague begins sweeping through the kingdom, straining its people and institutions even as they recover from the earlier conflict, while the heroine Pony, now grappling with personal tragedy connected to the loss of Elbryan, tries to find her place in a changed world. The novel also introduces new figures who will carry the saga forward, including a young ranger of the nomadic To-gai people, whose arrival broadens the story's scope beyond Corona's borders and lays groundwork for the second trilogy's conflicts, as old wounds from the first war continue to shape the kingdom's uncertain recovery.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
